When Domestic Violence Restraining Orders Expire (End)

en español>

If the protected person does not ask the court to issue new orders before the existing DVPA orders expire, then these orders will all end.  Any orders that address child custody, visitation, or child support will continue after the termination of the restraining order, and can be modified later.

  • Generally, child support orders remain in effect until the child reaches the age of 18 -- unless the child is still living with a parent and attending high school as a full-time student. In this case, child support continues until the child graduates from high school or reaches the age of 19, whichever event occurs first.
